Windows Server 2008 R2: The main news

Our colleagues from Bink.nu brought together the elements on the expected features for Windows Server 2008 R2. Although many details are provided in the coming days to the PDC, we can talk about some key issues such as Hyper-V R2 or support native HDV files.
Here is a list of key elements that we can see in Windows Server 2008 R2:
Hyper-V 2.0 R2
* Live Migration: the ability to migrate virtual machines from one server to another without interruption or with minimal interruption and not perceptible by the end user
* Support 32 logiques processors on the host machine (twice more than in the first version)
* Add hot VHD virtual disk on virtual machines in operation
* Second Level Translation (SLAT): use features recent processors to reduce the burden of hyperviseur, with improved management and reduced consumption of RAM
* Dynamic memory: memory is allocated dynamically between virtual machines
VHD virtual hard disks
* Starting from a VHD virtual hard drive using the equipment on the host machine
Terminal Services
* New APIs for developers
* Dynamic CPU allocation
* Virtual IP address
* Full MSI
* Analyzer practices
Management Features
* The manager can manage servers remotely them
* The roles and the most important tasks (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc) can be managed locally or remotely via scripts PowerShell
* Migration Wizard to complete the roles and mode Core servers to Server 2008 R2
Active Directory Domain Services: adding a new console called Active Directory Administration Center and based on PowerShell 2.0
PowerShell 2.0
* Creation of functions using the full commandlets
* Calls possible to the API. NET, whatever the version installed
* A better script debugging
* Subscription for Windows Event System enables PowerShell to respond to a particular event
* Writing can commandlets in PowerShell scripts, in addition to C # and VB.NET compiled
* Portability improved scripts between multiple machines
* Opportunity for containing commandlets packages, with definition and packaging scripts, then to be sent to other administrators
* Unlike the first PowerShell, the configuration information are no longer stored in the registry, but in an XML file
* Uninstalling PowerShell 1.0 is required before you install version 2.0
Energy management
* Use the energy necessary for operation of a single charge states
* Reduction in consumption for the use of multi-core processors
* Control centralized management policies Energy
* SAN systems connected to the server can be configured so they use less energy when they are not fully utilized
Direct Access
* Direct Access allows machines to connect to resources of a corporate network without using a virtual private network (VPN). Direct Access uses SSTP, IPSec and IPv6.
Branchoffice Cache
* Allows to cache resources SMB http and downloaded by users to quickly reopen without consuming bandwidth
Server Core
* The. NET can be installed on a server mode Core to take advantage of all resources attached as ASP.NET and PowerShell 2.0
Other information should arrive very soon, but it will in any case retain an important element: Windows Server 2008 R2 will be available only for x86-64 processors, ie compatible with the AMD64 (AMD) or EM64T (Intel).
Moreover, the launch of this system is aligned with that of Windows 7, we could have imagined that he was concerned but this will not happen, since Microsoft has already said there would be two versions: 32 and 64 bits.
