windows 7 Windows 7: Microsoft promises that its next OS will be tailored to netBook

Microsoft has unveiled its next operating system Windows 7 that will succeed Vista and highlighted the capabilities of this new platform to operate effectively on modest configurations, namely the Netbook.

Microsoft has not seen the phenomenon of coming Netbook, these mini laptops that have emerged on the market in recent months and which, for prices ranging between 250 and 400 euros caracolent leading computer sales. Later operating system, manufacturers have started equipping their Netbook of Linux systems, perfectly calibrated for modest configurations (as Intel Atom and a limited amount of RAM). To track the movement and do not miss the boat, Microsoft has much of a solution to manufacturers of Netbook, as an alternative to Windows Vista, too greedy for resources. The publisher of the coup showed the good old Windows XP, whose life was extended to fuel this lucrative market. A solution can only be temporary.

An operating system and lighter touch

At the 2008 conference PDC (Professional Developers Conference), Microsoft has unveiled part of its next Windows operating system 7. When presenting the new OS, the publisher stressed that one of the key areas of development of Windows 7 was that this platform works well on modest hardware configurations. Evidence, Stephen Sinofsky, Senior Vice President at Microsoft, has demonstrated Windows 7 running on a NETBOOK equipped with a 1GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.

The next Microsoft operating system would be lighter, and its interface and its embedded software such as Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Explorer – also bear (native) tactile manipulation. Capacity clearly put forward to address the emerging market for PC touch, but also that of Netbook. Indeed, mini portable PC with touch screens are part of the site as manufacturers Asus, as early as 2009.

The question is whether Windows 7 will not arrive a little late in the market for Netbook currently in full explosion: its commercial launch in 2009 is still far from certain. The “pre beta” distributed to developers at the PDC should be followed by a true beta in early 2009. The commercial launch of a finalized version is planned until the end of the year 2009 or even 2010 …
