Written on July 30, 2009 – 5:00 pm | by Marius |

Office 2010 is the next major version of Microsoft office suite, expected next year. As the different versions, the result has been enriched by new software, but the cutting of editions has often caused difficulties, including Outlook. Microsoft wanted to simplify the whole.

The five editions of Office 2010

Here are the different editions planned for Office 2010:

As you can see, we keep the recipe to the success of the Home and Student (Family and students), a license which allows for OneNote, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on three computers in the same household for about 150 dollars / euros.

But Microsoft has clearly listened to the criticism raining on the placement of Outlook editions too expensive. We discovered a new formula called Home and Business, and even if we do not yet know the price, we imagine that his niche is the same as the Home and Student. It also incorporates the three programs of the latter, and adds just Outlook.

As a result, the remaining editions of works in the same way, adding in passing one or more products to each climb in the range:

* The Standard edition adds Publisher at the Home and Business
* The Professional edition adds the Access Standard
* The Professional Plus edition adds SharePoint Workspace (formerly Groove) and the Professional InfoPath

It should be noted in passing the deletion Ultimate editions, Enterprise, and Basic (reserved for OEM).

Early test for the online version

But the novelty comes from a private test session that has just started. Since Office 2010 is marked by the arrival of an online version, a small selection of people can now engage in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook through the use of technology Click-to-Run and streaming.

Click-to-Run is a variant of ClickOnce that allows to launch and install an application in a simplified manner. In this case, data is transported over the user’s PC and then installed. Online software then start locally.

The technology is designed to reduce download time, but according to some testimonies collected by Mary-Jo Foley of ZDNet, this is not really the case. Transfers are not really fast, with cases of disconnected before the download. However, it is a “Technical Preview” and not a full beta.
