Twitter launches its own applications for smartphones

Last Friday Twitter has released an official application for BlackBerry, and announced the release in the coming weeks of an application for iPhone. Moreover, the social network ad “work to get the best experience possible on Twitter all major mobile platforms.” It should therefore also expect the release of Android and Windows Mobile versions (and later Windows Phone 7).

The BlackBerry includes a function “push” new tweets, integration with the camera phone and is available free on blackberry.com / twitter.

Unlike the BlackBerry, the iPhone has not been developed internally. Instead, Twitter has acquired Tweetie to Loren Brichta (and start-up Atebits). The site has hired Mr. Brichta the coup in his team for mobile, where he worked on a version iPad.

Tweetie had won in 2009 the “Apple Design Award, and was sold $ 2.99. The application will be renamed Twitter for iPhone and made free.

Twitter applications, both free and paid, existed for most smartphones. The arrival of these official applications should be a blow to competitors.
