Abstract:
As part of my moving from Canon to Nikon, who wanted to replace the Canon 100-400/4.5-5.6L is that he recently sold. Honestly, there is no substitute in the Nikon lens mount. That said, went through the usual suspects, and finally found the Sigma 100-300/4.
The aim is that the Nikon zoom into an offering that range in fact – period. If you include the hosting of the 70 to 300, is the only one to offer a f4 constant at all focal lengths. Therefore, there is really no direct competitor.
The first time you go out of the box, you realize what a piece of that gear is important. Hand in hand with all my Canon L’s, safe – at least as far as weight and quality is under construction. A petal huge bell, ring tripod and Nice padded case is included. Therefore, it is the mark of lenses layer E – a black crinkle finish.
With the mark EX f4 constant and focused HSM is the engine – it does not focus on that body. Fairly quickly, but might risk a guess that the 100-400 was just a little faster. However, there remained a falcon Redtail flying between branches of the tree.
IQ is very pleasant and balanced. Great contrast and color.
However, an excellent purchase for less than $ 1,000 new and used $ 700.
Strengths:
Building, AF speed of F4, including tripod and ring cases. Image quality is on an equal footing with my L-series lenses as well.
Weaknesses:
Weight. Yes, I knew what was happening and I proceeded to 12.14 pounds for a drink 70-200, 100-400, 24-105 and 180 macro front, but there is still a lot of weight.
The biggest negative is the lack of SI / OS / VR type of stabilization. With a focal length of 300 mm and 3 pounds, some form of VR would be good. Naturally, the cost will also increase.
