Samsung X360: ultraportable “lighter than air”

Samsung introduced at the show IFA in Berlin its first ultraportable high-end, the X360, the future competitor of the Apple MacBook Air and Lenovo ThinkPad X300 and X301. To do this, this luxurious machine is based on the strengths of its competitors: 13.3-inch screen with resolution 1280 x 800 pixels, backlit by LED, Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low power consumption, disks DSS 64 or 128 Go ..
Samsung announced that the X360 weighs 1.27 kilograms, or a slightly lower weight (around a few grams) than his two opponents directly. The case bicolore (mast and brilliant) was created in aluminium and magnesium alloy, allowing Samsung to assert that its ultraportable is “lighter than air” in its promotional slogan. We will not get far, but this feat may be welcomed. With its 6-cell battery, the manufacturer says that the autonomy of the X360 can reach 10 hours. No doubt it also increases its weight.
Intended as a priority to business customers, the X360 also proposes a fingerprint reader, a TPM chip, a 1.3 megapixel camera, wireless connectivity 802.11n WiFi and a comfortable number of USB ports (3). Finally, it also integrates a memory card reader 7-to-1 and an HDMI port. By cons, no mention is made of a possible option to add a module 3G internal option. It will then connect a plug on port expansion ExpressCard, also attended.
Various configurations will be available this fall, with a choice of several processors, from 1 to 4 GB of RAM, a record 120 GB 5400 rpm, 64 or 128 gigabytes of disk DSS. The price of these new ultraportables starts at 1400 euros, but there is no doubt that the high-end configurations will exceed 2000 euros.
