i donw know who told you this but netbooks have pros and cons!

Pros: they are really small, really light and portable.

cons: dont have too much speed, very little memory and storage and have no portable drives like CD or DVD drives!

and is far as i know, netbooks are a bit more expensive than laptops!

Here is my two cents: I will not suggest a particular model but I will tell you to stay away from netbooks at the moment as they are rather limited for their prices (limits like less powerful CPU chip, no CD/DVD inside, very average speed, cramped keyboard and small screens).

You can get a small good laptop (also called notebook) without these limits at an affordable price by doing research.

Here is how: The first step is to get information on the current laptops and, as a second step, to search online at stores (like BestBuy) for the best deals on the ones you would really like to have based on research.

This way, you get the best working laptops at the best prices.

As laptop specs change often, it is good to get non-vendor/non-partisan/non-groupie information so you should do some checking on these review/guide sites to help fine tune your search.

At each site, start by checking the current models shown and then you can compare them with others by choosing different options using boxes and drop down menus to customize the search and get what you want in your laptop ( there is even a way on some of those sites to look by inputting the price you are willing to pay to get choices which won’t blow up your wallet ).

Your time will not be wasted (after all, you get all this from the comfort of your home) and you should find something to your liking and budget.

The Netbook is generally a stripped down, small and cheap laptop with a less than a 12” screen, designed primarily for the mobile user that needs to access the Internet, respond to some email, write a few documents, listen to online radio, Chat & Skype.

Netbooks typically used as a 2nd or 3rd PC, besides a desktop and/or full-sized laptop. If you don’t have a desktop at home or a full-sized laptop, you’re probably better of buying a laptop.

17 differences between netbooks and laptops (or notebooks) are described here:

Buy a netbook only if portability is important for you. For the home use mainstream laptop would be the best (in terms of performance for the price). You can get a netbook which will be $100 cheaper than laptop, but you will loose ~ half a power probably.

For your tasks you don’t need a very powerful system. Something like this:

would be perfect. 2.0 Ghz dual core processor and 3 Gb of RAM is more than enough for office, Internet and movies. Price is $600 Canadian.
