Now more than ever, shopping on the Internet is second nature for many people the first country. From the Amazon to buy.com on eBay, millions of dollars are transferred electronically every day between buyer and seller.

With such massive quantities of consumer activity online, such as technology VeriSign SSL (Secure Socket Layer), help keep buyers honest immune to the dangers of phishing attacks and fraud. With the software SSL, and a little experience on the Internet, we can keep themselves and their bank accounts, safe against fraudulent Web sites.

That was until today. Although I’m not going to sound the alarm just Doomsday, however, an international team of experts in Internet security managed to hack SSL.

The feat was the failure of one of the MD5 algorithm used in the issuance of safety certificates for Web sites. The certificates are used to confirm that the site is legitimate and not an attempt to mislead visitors. Once the computer was broken, but the algorithm, which were able to enter the site RapidSSL.com. After that the team was capable of producing fake certificates that they have the same MD5 hash values as legitimate certificates.

According to the report, “the team that made the research has included independent researchers and Jacob Appelbaum Alexander Sotirov, and the team of scientists from the Centrum Wiskunde Informatica, and the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Eindhoven University of Technology University of California, Berkeley. “From the original story, the team was configured to display their achievements in the Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin.

Even if the results are certainly an achievement, and one in which a terrifying, the team, as well as companies like Microsoft have minimized the vulnerability. “This new revelation does not significantly increase the risk for customers, as researchers have not published the cryptographic core of the attack and the attack is not reproducible without this information,” said Microsoft . Then, if the information is the responsibility of the wrong hands, we are all safe.

Despite subtract the gravity of the string, a member of the team made a point of telling the security of the Internet must change. “It’s an awakening for all those who are still using MD5,” said David Molnar, a team member and graduate student at Berkeley. Tim Callan of VeriSign Vice President of Product Marketing, said RapidSSL.com stop issuing digital certificates based on MD5 at the end of January and is atempting their customers in new security products.

Developers of mobile applications will soon be able to offer paid Android applications on the market, according to Eric Chu, director of marketing group to group Google Android.

Chu sent an e-mail to tell developers a payment option is on track for the first quarter of 2009, and that content creators May be specific regions with different versions of the same approx.

“I would also like to confirm that support Android applications market prices early in Q1 2009 as originally told us last fall,” Chu wrote in an e-mail obtained by the Authority Android. “Taking into account the country by the work required to establish the payment of support for developers from different countries, allowing a price at the 1st quarter of support for developers in these countries in the following order: (1) U.S. and the UK (2) Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, (3) France, Italy and Spain. ”

Being able to sell Google applications can the operating system platform more attractive for large developers like Electronic Arts. Android EA already sells games like “Tetris” in the shop of mobile applications such as Handango, but be able to get Android on the market ensures greater visibility.

The change could also help developers Android Woo outside the Apple Store Manager. Google says it will be very little control over such material Android is on the market, even if the applications to compete with Google’s own products. By contrast, Apple restricts the creation of the developers of applications that duplicate the functions of the iPhone, a company can not create a browser or music player for the iPhone 3G.

In addition, Android should be several phones in 2009, opening a potentially huge audience for developers. However, that different materials may also be a thorn in the side of developers, because they are added to the compatibility tests because not all combined Android have the same characteristics or method of entry.

In the short term, developers will probably remain the App Store because users have already downloaded over 300 million applications in about six months. While large companies to create content for as many platforms as possible, with smaller developers to focus resources on the App Store, because it offers a potentially lucrative opportunity that can be very tempting for ‘ignore.

How 7 Beta 1 for Windows Vista and XP compare in terms of performance? This is an issue that was hit my inbox with regularity in recent weeks. Let’s see if we can not respond!

Important: Before going further I need to make a point, and make it clear. The building I’m testing Windows 7 (build 6.1.7000.0.081212-1400) is a beta build, and in general beta are generally more focused on the stability of performance. However, the performance of such construction should give us an idea of how the operating system is along the next.

Instead of issuing a series of reference for the three operating systems (something that frowns beta Microsoft is based, not to mention the fact that the final figures only important for the release candidate and is based RTM) I decided to Windows 7, Vista and XP head to head in a series of real-world tests to find out what OS is in place.

The evidence

There are 23 races in total, most of whom are themselves:

1. Install OS - the time it takes to install the operating system
2. Start - prices from time to be used on PCs
3. Stop - Average time to close
4. Transferring files of 100 MB - 100 MB Moving JPEG file on a hard drive to another
5. Moving files 2.5GB - Move size of 2.5GB of mixed files (ranging from 100 MB to 1 MB) of hard disk to another
6. Network file transfer of 100 MB - 100 MB of JPEG moving the test NAS
7. Net transfer of 2.5 GB of files - Move size of 2.5GB of mixed files (ranging from 100 MB to 1 MB) of the test NAS
8. Moving files with 100 MB of charge - Move 100 MB of JPEG files from one drive to another, while ripping a DVD. ISO file
9. Move files to load 2.5 GB - Move size of 2.5GB of mixed files (ranging from 100 MB to 1 MB) of hard disk to another, while ripping a DVD. ISO file
10. Network file transfer load 100 MB - 100 MB of JPEG files move the machine to test the NAS, while ripping a DVD. ISO file
11. Net transfer of 2.5 GB of files loaded - Move size of 2.5GB of mixed files (ranging from 100 MB to 1 MB) of the machine to test the NAS, while a DVD copy. ISO file
12. Compressing files of 100 MB - The use of ZIP compression
13. Compressing files 1 GB - Use compression in ZIP
14. Extract the files of 100 MB - using ZIP compression in
15. Extract 1 GB of files - Use compression in ZIP
16. Install Office 2007 - latest version of DVD
17. Open from 10 pages in Word doc - text only
18. Open the Word document of 100 pages - text and pictures only
19. Open simple Excel doc - basic format
20. Open Excel doc complex - Includes formula and graphs
21. Burn DVD - Win 7 beta 1. ISO disc using CDBurnerXP
22. Open PDF, 10 pages - text, using the latest version of Adobe Reader 8
23. Open PDF 100 pages - text and images, using the latest version of Adobe Reader 8

This series of tests for the launch of Windows 7 build 7000 against the 32-bit Windows Vista SP1 and 32-bit Windows XP Service Pack 3 for 32 bits. The score for each test is simple. The winner scores OS 1, the second at 2 and 3 ratings loser. The scores are added together and the operating system with the lowest score at the end wins.

The test systems

I used two desktop systems such as testing machines:

* A 9700 AMD Phenom 2.4 GHz system with an ATI Radeon 3850 and 4 GB of RAM
* An Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 2.2GHz equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS and 1 GB of RAM

The results

Here are the results of tests for both systems:

Conclusion

The key is that the more I use Windows 7, the more I enjoy it. Of course, we are looking for a beta build here, not the final code, so things can change between now and release (although realistically the last code ends up being faster than the beta code). Also, I still have some persistent questions about the interface, and some of the concerns that UAC breaks and other changes code applications, especially installers, but overall Windows 7 beta 1 is a robust, solid piece of code.

Of course, Windows XP 7 is not and never will be (fortunately). And if you put things off activation of DRM, and while Windows is the operating system for you (good news is that other choice). But if you’re looking for a robust operating system Windows 7 seems ready to provide just that - a fast, reliable and relatively easy to use for your platform hardware and software.
