Android: more than 200 000 activations per day and No. 1 in the USA

Android is becoming new iPhone
Eric Schmidt had already surprised there are fewer than three months by announcing that more than 100,000 smartphone Android was turned on each day (still 3 million per month). And now the president of Google has unveiled a few days ago that this number has now doubled. In sum, according to him, more than 200,000 new Android devices are activated every day. An astronomical number, which would in case of stability 6 million smartphones per month, and 72 million per year …
If these data are still to be confirmed by the various manufacturers and research specialists, NDP nonetheless announced Android last week was a huge success overseas. Indeed, according to NPD Group, a third (33%) of smartphones sold in the United States during the second quarter operating Android. The RIM BlackBerry has in turn represented “only” 28% of sales, against 22% for Apple iPhone.
RIM, historically a leader in this sector in the country of Uncle Sam, has lost his head, which had not happened for nearly three years. It should nevertheless be noted that the iPhone was released just four days before the end of the second quarter. The figures for the third quarter (July-September) will be very interesting to analyze, especially as BlackBerry 6 should enable RIM to accelerate its sales.
According to NPD, the Motorola Droid (Milestone in our region) has been the best selling Android phone in the U.S. during the second quarter before four HTC: The Incredible Droid, EVO 4G, Hero and Droid Eris.
But back to about Eric Schmidt. The latter has commented that the success of Android was a real treat for Google, because of many commercials populating the system applications and paying the company for every click. This not to mention that Google is also widely used on the iPhone. The success of both platforms so full advantage to Google.
Finally, Eric Schmidt said the business model for Android was more than good: “Believe me, the recipes are big enough to pay all activities Android, and many more things.” We have no doubt.
Android Market vs. App Store
Remember Android has recently surpassed the one billion applications downloaded from the Android Market (cons over five billion on the App Store), and at the current rate – about seven million a day – it will a handful of months to reach two billion mark in downloaded applications.
The Android Market has about 100 000 applications available, against 245,000 for the App Store. And evidence overtaking the former over the latter, growth in July was almost equivalent in terms of number of new applications (just under 20,000 apps), so Android Market soon will catch the App Store.
