GeForce GTX 285 On Water Cooling: Zotac’s Infinity Edition

Why Water?

Liquid cooling takes advantage of the key features that a larger radiator offers compared to local sinks, with the added benefit that the radiator can often be mounted in a cooler air stream.

That explains why a large radiator sits at the front of most automobiles, but in the case of overclocking, complexity and inconvenience have limited the number of liquid-cooling applications in PCs. Most liquid cooling systems focus on the CPU, since adding other components to the loop makes servicing a nightmare. In particular, removing a liquid cooling system from graphics cards requires extreme caution and plenty of extra time to drain the system, which must then be refilled and re-purged (to remove air from the water lines) before it can be used again. This could easily turn five minutes of diagnostic work into a one-hour ordeal–and that’s if you know what you’re doing.

Who wants to drain/re-fill this bad-boy?

Review: iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

For those of you who poke fun at Apple’s design philosophy, you have some new joke material.  Not to be outdone by the single button concept on the iPhone, Apple has created a device with ZERO buttons. The new iPod Shuffle concept might just fool you for an Onion story: no buttons, proprietary headphones, and next you’re going to tell me it talks to me too, right?

Sizing it up

Apple has relocated all buttons to controls on the proprietary ear buds.  All that remains on the small device is the “On, Loop, Shuffle” switch and the headphone jack used for listening and syncing.  It’s different, and it takes some getting used to. This allows for a 50% reduction in size from the previous generation Shuffle. That thing was the size of a postage stamp. That would make this…half the size of a postage stamp? But seriously, it’s small. Those prone to leaving change in their pockets and only realizing it when you do the laundry, you’ve been warned. (more…)

The MC10, which has many of the same characteristics as other netBook, this is not the prettiest NETBOOK in the yard, and $ 549 is too much for their functionality. However, your customization options and the company plans to sell a barebones unit may be ideal for users seeking to build a very specific NETBOOK.

Black boxy design

The black, shiny Workhorse Certeza MC10 PC looks good from afar, almost, but not the same brightness as its competitors. Sports boxy plastic chassis, certainty is not a finished product which is partly due to its customization. The coverage, which is a fingerprint magnet, has a small indentation in the shape of a rectangular slot which is empty at the time, but you can customize with a label of a name or school. Similarly, a strip of white plastic waiting to be customized to run in the top of the keyboard. Although there is a Workhorse logo below the screen, the general impression is that this is a course NETBOOK.

However, the MC10 Certeza is quite compact for a 10-inch. 10.4 x 7.3 x 1.1 inches, has the same size as the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Svelto, but advice on the scale a little over 3 kilos heavier. However, with a distance of 3.6 pounds with its AC adapter, the system will leverage our position in the transport of portable DVD, and not weigh on our shoulders in our walk home from work. (more…)
